Sources Of Energy
Sources of Energy
Energy is the ability of to do something or work. Energy sources can be divided into two types based on how quickly replenished. These are -
- Conventional Energy Source
- Non-conventional Energy Source
Conventional Energy Source :
The sources of energy which can't be compensated once these used are known as conventional energy source. This type of source is known as non-renewable sources of energy.
Ex : Coal, Natural Gas, Nuclear Energy etc.
Coal :
It's a major conventional source of the energy which formed due to the progressive decomposition of plants by heat and pressure. When the coal is used then we get a lot of energy but we can't use coal more than once.
Natural Gas :
It is the mixture of the different gases. Such as -
CH4 = 95% C2H6 =3.2% C3H8 = 0.2% N = 1% CO2 = 0.5% others = 0.1%
we use natural gas in order to cook food; burn wire; ride vehicles; run turbine, boiler; produce electricity & so on. But we use natural gas once can't use further time.
Nuclear Energy :
A small amount of radioactive substance U-235 can produce a lot of energy through the process of nuclear fusion. This is a continuous process where we a lot of energy.
Non-conventional Energy Source:
The source of energy which can be compensated once these used are known as non-conventional energy sources. This type of source is known as renewable sources of energy.
Ex : Wind power, solar energy, biofuel etc.
Wind Power :
This is one of the energy sources that have been in use for a very long time and for centuries. This energy used in wind mills which can convert wind into mechanical energy. The minimum wind speed required is 15 Km/hr. to produce power.
Solar Energy :
This energy obtained from the sun. This energy converted into heat, light and electricity. The solar constant be 1361 W/m2. This energy is used in solar cooker, water heater, solar cell etc.
Biofuel :
This type of energy is called biomass energy. The organic matters originated from living organisms like wood, cattle dung, sewage agricultural wastes etc. are called biomass. These substance can be burnt to produce heat energy which can be used in the generation of electricity.
It's always remembered that energy can't be destroyed or created, it is only converted from one to another.
